Abe suggested to the president the IOC to postpone the Olympic Games in Tokyo

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe proposed to postpone the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games for a year due to the coronavirus pandemic. He informed the president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach in a telephone conversation, reports on March 24 NHK TV channel. It is noted that the participants of the conversation were also the Governor of Tokyo Yuriko Koike and the head of the organizing committee of Games Yoshiro Mori. The agenda of the conversation includes the option of transfer of the world sports tournament due to the scale of spread of the new disease of COVID-19. After a telephone conversation the extraordinary session of executive committee of the IOC on the future fate of the Olympic Games is expected. According to the news agency, the Olympic Games in Tokyo should open on July 24, closing is scheduled for August 9.
