Iran: US rejects arms embargo violation
On July 9, an Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman said that the US authorities rejected the violation of the UN arms embargo. This was reported by the Iranian agency IRNA. Abbas Mousavi made these remarks in response to statements by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo that the United States seized an Iranian ship transporting weapons to Yemen. Rejecting such a claim, Mousavi said that lies and the spread of hatred are the main components of US foreign policy. American officials think in vain that they can prepare the ground for maximum pressure on Iran in a series of futile attempts to extend the UN arms embargo on Iran, which expires in mid-October, Mousavi said. Earlier on June 30, permanent and non-permanent members of the UN Security Council, except the United States, unconditionally supported the nuclear deal signed in July 2015 by Iran, five permanent members of the Security Council and Germany. The states are not a party to this deal, since they unilaterally withdrew from it in May 2018.
