Demonstrators in Cameroon were dispersed by police with water cannons


Cameroon's police and gendarmes used tear gas and water cannons to disperse protesters who called for an end to the nearly 40-year rule of President Paul Biya. This was reported on September 22 by Reuters, citing eyewitnesses. According to the publication, on Tuesday morning hundreds of people gathered in a busy shopping district in Douala, chanting: Biya should leave. Members of the security forces who, in anticipation of planned demonstrations in recent days, filled the streets of Cameroon's largest cities, including the capital Yaoundé, used tear gas and water cannons against the demonstrators.
