In Kenya, denied rumors about the construction of a highway through a nature reserve in Nairobi

The management of Nairobi National Park in Kenya denied reports that construction of a highway had begun inside the park. This was reported by the Air Force Swahili with reference to a statement by the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS). According to the statement, gravel mining began from the quarry in the park, which will be used to improve the road connecting KWS headquarters with its central office inside the park. After completion of the work, the contractor will restore the quarry in accordance with the environmental plan, which was approved before the start of work, added to KWS. Nairobi National Park is located only 7 km from the center of the capital of Kenya and is described by the wildlife service in Kenya as the only protected area in the world located near the capital. Photos of lions lying at the recently excavated quarries aroused public suspicions in social networks that large-scale road construction had begun in the park. Supporters of nature conservation in Kenya have in the past accused the government of ignoring environmental problems. Kenya was currently building a highway connecting East and West Nairobi, and the Government had to revise the project because it had originally planned to use a piece of land from Uhuru Park in the city centre.
