The leader of Rwanda named the time frame for overcoming the consequences of the pandemic in Africa

Rwandan President Paul Kagame warned that it could take a generation or more for Africa to recover from the shock of the pandemic. This is reported by the British newspaper Financial Times. In an interview with the correspondent of the publication Kagame said that the continent will need at least 100 billion US dollars of foreign support. Kagame said he was confident progress could be made through what he described as good interaction from partners such as France, Germany, China and the United States. The World Bank predicts that the pandemic will lead Africa into recession for the first time in 25 years, as world trade declines and commodity prices continue to fall. Last week, the top economies of G20 agreed to suspend debt payments by some of the world's poorest countries, including many in Africa. To date, more than 22,500 cases of coronavirus infection have been confirmed in Africa. Last week, the World Health Organization (WHO) warned that the continent could be the next epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak. U.N. officials say at least 300,000 people are likely to die because of the pandemic in Africa and nearly 30 million will be below the poverty line.
