Beijing promises to create a pilot E-Town smart zone by the end of the year

Beijing authorities plan to create a pilot unmanned driving zone using cloud technologies by the end of the year as an important step towards the development of smart transport networks in the capital, Xinhua News Agency reported on September 22. The pilot zone will be located in the Beijing Economic and Technological Development Zone, also known as E-Town, will occupy an area of more than 60 square meters. km Smart roads will be laid on it, along which smart cars will drive. At the same time, reliable communication networks and accurate maps will operate in the zone, said Kun Lay, a spokesman for the E-Town administration. The zone will be suitable for unmanned vehicles of the automation level L4 and above. Also on it in test mode will move cars and a lower degree of automation. They will also introduce Internet of Things applications in the zone, Kong noted during the Zhongguancun Forum 2020. The level of automation L4 implies a lack of supervision of the vehicle by a person, while the levels of automation, like L3 only under certain conditions, allow drivers to remove their hands from the steering wheel or take their eyes off the road at low speeds.
